Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $121,155 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

The Inspectorate of Policing
The Inspectorate of Policing (IOP) is a new division established to meet the legislative mandate of the Inspector General of Policing under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA). The IOP will monitor, advise, conduct inspections and investigate complaints concerning the delivery of policing and compliance with the CSPA and its regulations, as well as investigate complaints related to board member misconduct.

The Ministry
The Ministry of the Solicitor General is responsible for the safety and security of communities across Ontario through effective policing, correctional services and emergency services programs. The ministry promotes policing excellence by communicating with and providing advice to the police community, as well as through training, developing professional standards and establishing new programs. The Ontario Provincial Police provides front-line policing services to more than 400 municipal and First Nations communities. The ministry is also responsible for maintaining effective and efficient correctional programs that create an environment where offenders are better able to return to the community and make positive contributions to society. Through the work of the Office of the Chief Coroner, Office of the Fire Marshal, Centre of Forensic Sciences and Emergency Management Ontario, the ministry seeks to minimize or eliminate hazards to people and property.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a statistics specialist, you will:

• Develop, implement and maintain statistical models using modeling techniques;
• Translate data and analytical results into actionable insights for senior leadership decision making;
• Lead and coordinate the planning and implementation of statistical and analytical projects;
• Provide consultation and coaching support to less senior staff in relation to research and statistical methodologies, tools and processes;
• Participate in briefings to deliver presentations summarizing analytical findings and conclusions up to the
Assistant Deputy Minister level;
• Design and develop communication plans and processes;
• Develop and sustain positive relationships and networks with justice-sector stakeholders and colleagues in other jurisdictions.

How do I qualify?

Statistical and Technical Knowledge

• You understand predictive analytics and statistical modeling techniques and are able to apply them to identify trends and patterns;
• You have an excellent knowledge of statistics and statistical methodologies and software;
• You have knowledge of performance measurement techniques and tools and key performance indicators (KPIs) to develop graphical presentations/dashboards;
• You have a clear understanding of government mandates, strategic priorities and policies to develop recommendations based on research/analytics results that influence decision making for policy and program development.

Project Management and Planning skills

• You can lead and manage statistical and analytical projects effectively to meet goals.
• You can develop data collection processes, methods and strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality
• You can coordinate project documentation and the preparation of comprehensive analytical reports and briefing materials with actionable recommendations to support senior leadership decision making;
• You can plan own work, involving multiple areas of responsibility.

Communication, Presentation and Leadership skills

• You can communicate information clearly, verbally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences individually and in groups as well as prepare clear and effective briefing, reports and presentation materials;
• You can present research and analytical results to non-technical professionals.
• You can provide direction/guidance to staff assigned to projects/studies and to mentor/coach less senior staff.

Relationship Management and Collaboration skills

•You can develop and build networks and partnerships with other ministries, research partners and key external stakeholders to develop effective linkages for research consultations and projects.

Analytical and Computer skills

• You have excellent knowledge of office computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, statistical and database packages to assess data, conduct analysis and prepare reports, presentations and dashboards;
• You can conduct analysis, explain analytic methodology and report accurate results and recommendations.
