Classification: Casual

Hourly Rate Pay Scale: 17.91 - 19.43 per hour (based on experience), $2.00 additional per hour in 2023 when replacing an RECE in the Headstart programs and other benefits

Department: Family, Community Health and Harm Reduction

Job Summary


The Casual Worker will facilitate community based programs for children and youth ages newborn - 18yrs. They will provide educational programming and support to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.


Job Specific Responsibilities


  • Ensure all program safety measures are being met at all times
  • Delivers programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of children and youth
  • Maintains files as directed and daily attendance/stats for each client registered and participating in community based programs
  • Provides updates and contacts parents when necessary
  • Monitor and advise staff if purchasing of supplies and equipment for programming is needed
  • Works closely with program staff, volunteers, and student placements
  • Participates in establishing a positive social atmosphere and role models positive interactions and behaviour management including observing, demonstrating, reinforcing
  • Other duties may include: diapering, preparing and serving nutritious snacks; ensuring participants are dressed appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities; room set up and cleaning.


Qualifications/Requirements


  • High School Diploma and/or post secondary education
  • Experience working directly with child and youth
  • High Five Training an asset
  • First Aid / CPR level C
  • Food Handler Certification an asset
  • Ability to speak French an asset
  • Criminal Reference Check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Health Assessment and up to date Immunizations (or statement of conscience) as required by the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2 Covid 19 vaccinations
