Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) provides trauma-informed and highly specialized services for children and youth of Ontario who experience complex and long-standing combinations of mental health difficulties and/or developmental challenges where these difficulties significantly impact functioning in multiple areas such as home, school and community and appropriate community interventions have not produced the desired response. CPRI provides services that are based on a partnership model with community service providers. Our services include Assessment, Consultation, Treatment, Research and Education in both outpatient and inpatient services. CPRI is looking for a motivated team player with food service expertise to fill the role of On-Call Cook where you will prepare and serve meals to residents.

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $25.62 to $27.70 per hour in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Prepare meals for residents including specialized diets
• Preparing food for delivery to residential areas
• Maintain work area in a clean and sanitary manner
• Complete weekly inventory and receive weekly grocery, produce, bread and milk orders
• Ensures that residents are provided with safe, nutritious quality meals in the most effective manner

Please Note:
• This position is irregularly scheduled, on-call working from 0 to 40 hours per week with no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Hours of work will be between Monday to Friday during the days.
• This position will require you to perform a variety of physically demanding, routine, manual tasks relating to the preparation and receiving of food items
• This position will require you to drive a motorized cart

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a Cook's certificate issued by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development OR equivalent acceptable experience

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• You have training and experience in cooking and food services in order to prepare a variety of meals according to recipe and menu requirements
• You have knowledge of diet accommodations (i.e. medical, religious, lifestyle) and catering
• You are able to supervise meal production in the absence of the Manager
• You have knowledge of safe food handling techniques and hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) requirements including proper cleaning/sanitizing techniques
• You have knowledge of workplace health and safety standards

Other Essential Skills

• You have communication skills and are able to follow and carry out specific verbal and written instructions
• You have problem-solving skills to conduct inventory of food items, receive orders, and complete temperature checking
• You are able to plan, prepare, and ensure special diets meet clients' dietary requirements
