We are currently accepting resumes for Temporary Labourer positions commencing April 2024.

Horticulture positions:
Perform horticultural duties such as planting, maintaining, mulching and pruning of annual, perennial and shrub beds to enhance horticultural areas within parks, road allowance & traffic medians throughout the City of Cambridge.
Assist in garden design and plant selection.
Demonstrate a sound understanding of the safe and efficient use of all job-related tools and equipment including line trimmers, rototillers, brush chippers, agricultural tractors, chainsaws, rotary mowers, leaf blowers, sod cutters, rakes, shovels etc.
Lead work of part-time staff and instruct them in the safe and efficient use, care and maintenance of tools and equipment, and completion of horticultural practices.
Perform watering duties at city gardens and downtown planters.
Propagate, grow, transplant and maintain various horticultural crops in the city greenhouse facility.
Assist with monitoring and determining the necessary growing conditions and control of all plant pests using an Integrated Pest Management approach.
Perform grass cutting and trimming of turf in selected locations.
18 Years of age or older.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
High School OSSD Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
A college diploma in Horticulture or a related discipline is preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of horticultural experience and/or greenhouse experience performing duties related to the above-mentioned responsibilities is preferred.
Valid Class "G" Driver's License required (proof of license is required upon offer of employment)
Possession of valid Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Landscape and/or Greenhouse Exterminator licenses would be considered an asset.
Chainsaw experience/certification would be considered an asset.
First Aid, CPR and WHMIS training is preferred. (proof of training/certificate required)
Ability to deal effectively with the public.
Ability to follow direction.
Ability to meet the physical demands requirements of the position.
HORTICULTURE
Job Duration Approximately 7-8 months
Hours Per Week 40 hours/week
Hours of Work Monday to Sunday
Shifts can be scheduled between 5:00 am - 1:00 am
8 hours/day as scheduled.
This position is located within our CUPE 32 (outside workers) compensation schedule and the hourly rate of pay is as follows (2024 Rate):
Starting Rate: $24.65
Returning 2nd season rate: $25.39 (must meet criteria for returning employees)
Returning 2+ season rate: $26.15 (must meet criteria for returning employees)
