What can I expect to do in this role?

  • Prepare a wide variety of foods through standard volume cooking methods, ensuring adherence to prescribed menus, works schedules and dietary charts.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food services area, equipment/utensils.
  • Assist in the receiving and stocking of food items.
  • Assist with inventory of supplies.
  • Perform other duties related to the operation of a large school cafeteria.
  • Ability to work on-call hours as required.


How do I qualify?

Knowledge and Experience:

  • You have thorough knowledge of food preparation, storage techniques/procedures and proper kitchen equipment operations, normally acquired through completion of a post-secondary education in chef/cook training course or related work experience.
  • Completed Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • You have demonstrated experience in institutional cooking methods and procedures, especially in large volume cooking.
  • You have experience operating commercial/institutional food preparation equipment.
  • You know nutritional principles to assist in planning menus.


Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • You have excellent communication skills including the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • You have the ability to work independently and as a team member.


Physical Work

  • You have the ability to work shifts and perform physical work.
