About the role

We are offering a 4-month (January to April 2024) Geology internship based in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador at our Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) operations. Relocation to Labrador City is required for this role.

This internship will allow you to have direct exposure to mine engineering work on an active mine site. You will support different activities relating to IOC's Geologist.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assist with geological and geotechnical core logging and sampling to collect pertinent data and ensure timely processing of samples.
  • Conduct field work related to the diamond drill program, such as: hole surveying, reconnaissance, and downhole installations.
  • Work to high standards for quality assurance, quality control and data validation of for all geological data.

  • At least one year completed* of Geology, Earth Sciences or Geological Engineering

  • Flexibility and autonomy
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Valid driving license

*To be eligible, you must return to school post internship.

Where will you be working

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,400 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.

IOC's operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. This internship is based in Labrador City.
