Description

The Activity Leader for Seniors is responsible for assisting with the planning, organization and facilitation of a variety of engaging activities for seniors in low-income and other vulnerable situations. This role involves helping to create a vibrant and inclusive program out our community center that enhances the physical, social and emotional well-being of seniors who attend, while ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and execute creative and engaging weekly activities for existing Senior's Drop-in program
  • Alongside a team, arrange group outings/activities or themed gatherings, games or outreach opportunities for seniors
  • Engage seniors in life-skill and information sessions, hobbies and crafts
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of practical aid (food baskets and other), for seniors living in low income or other challenging situations
  • Support other helping programs aimed at reaching seniors in vulnerable situations
  • Navigate community resources for seniors, preparing resource aid
  • Ensure all necessary supplies and equipment for activities are available
  • Engage with program volunteers and other team members
  • Keep attendance records provide emotional support and companionship to seniors who may need it, being attentive to their well-being and reporting any concerns promptly
  • Office and administrative duties including flyers, phone calls and follow-up.

Position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs Employment program.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Criminal Record Check
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Experience working with vulnerable people. Engaging, patient and kind, an active listener.
  • Previous experience working in a creative group setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Full Time - 35 hours per week. 8 week contract position.
