National Communications Specialist

*This is a temporary role starting in mid-June until May 2025 (approximately 11 months).*

We’re currently seeking a National Communications Specialist to join our team who will plan, write and evaluate e-communications, website and social content for JDRF’s fundraising programs (primary Signature Events and Annual Giving programs). You will use data to inform content decisions, track progress and set targets to boost event participation and fundraising.

This role may be a fit for you if you have excellent written communication skills and have the ability to craft engaging content that will resonate with our supporters. We’re looking for someone who is a strong collaborator and who is skilled in project management. While not a firm requirement, being Bilingual in French and English is an asset.

Interested? In this position, you would have the opportunity to:

  • Write engaging content related to event fundraising, annual giving, and other events or campaigns, for online and offline channels including; e-mails, website, social media, as well as video scripts, etc.
  • Manage, edit and incorporate feedback on digital communications from internal stakeholders and project leads
  • Recommend and develop testimonial content (ie. donors, fundraisers, individuals living with type 1 diabetes) to be featured in targeted communications
  • Incorporate research, best practice, and online trends to develop targeted and impactful digital communications for key market segments
  • Manage content calendars for all signature events, annual giving and other assigned campaign communications (email and social)
  • Take ownership of project deliverables, determine priorities, manage workflows, liaise and engage internal and external stakeholders, prepare status reports, project plans, workback schedules and tracking documents ,and deliver quality products on time and on budget
  • Assist in the development of a translation production schedule in collaboration with the National Bilingual Translation Communications Manager.

Here’s the skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of communications experience in a national non-profit, Public Relations Agency, Marketing and Communications Department or related experience and University/College degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual (written and verbal) in French and English is an asset
  • Must possess strong project management skills
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with strong writing and editorial abilities for a range of communications channels and formats
  • A deep desire to not only learn about, but to understand type 1 diabetes research.
  • Team player and a relationship-builder who thrives in collaborative environments.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities.

Salary for the new incumbent is anticipated to be within the range of $60,000-$65,000 commensurate with skills and experience in relation to the role requirements.

Please note this is a temporary position – starting mid-June for approximately 11 months until May 2025.

Location Preference: Anywhere within Canada – this position will work remotely from a home-office
