The BC Children’s Hospital Cystic Fibrosis (CF) program provides tertiary care to families and their children with CF in British Columbia and the Yukon. Diagnostic and treatment services are offered by a team that includes medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, physiotherapy, nutrition, and pharmacy.

This full-time postdoctoral fellowship position specifically focuses on the clinical care service delivery for children and families experiencing CF, where psychological assessment, diagnosis and consultation are key contributions made by medical psychology. This position is part of a grant-funded project addressing the provincial model of care for mental health within CF, with the aim of providing responsive, equitable and appropriate care. Outcomes will be used to inform a business case for ongoing funding of a psychology position.

This fellowship will include:

1. Direct clinical service delivery to patients and their families attending the CF Clinic at BCCH. The Fellow will attend the CF clinic days at BCCH, participate in multi-disciplinary rounds, and conduct brief psychosocial assessments/screenings/direct consultations with the children, adolescents, and families. Follow up therapeutic care will occur outside of CF clinic times virtually, or in the Medical Psychology Outpatient Clinic.
2. The potential provision of psychological services to children and youth in the active diagnosis and treatment phases to support their learning and understanding of the experience of CF , depending on the candidate’s experience and training.
3. Providing consultation services to community providers for patients of the CF clinic who live outside of the lower mainland, thereby contributing to building capacity in BC.
4. Selected training, didactic and research experiences.

What you bring

Qualifications

• Training at the doctoral level in women’s, children and/or adolescent clinical and/or developmental psychology, pediatric neuropsychology, or a closely related area. All the requirements for the doctoral degree in must be completed. The applicant must have completed a CPA or APA accredited pre-doctoral residency (or equivalent).

You will also have:

• Ability to communicate and present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to carry out duties in a timely fashion. Ability to establish priorities, develop/implement short-term and long-term objectives. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to teach and provide instruction. Proficiency in computer skills related to report writing and to recording and managing data.
• Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
