Job Description


Reporting to the Chief Legal & Risk Officer (CLRO), the Legal Co-op will play an important role supporting the CLRO as well as the Human Resources and Security GRC heads on legal and compliance matters impacting FISPAN, as we progress on our journey.


Main Responsibilities


  • Commercial Transactions and Contract Management:
    • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including with our bank partners.
    • Maintain and organize contract repositories and management processes.
    • Conduct contract management reviews and analyses.
    • Collaborate with various departments to ensure contractual compliance.
  • Legal Compliance and Risk Analyses:
    • Conduct legal research to stay abreast of industry regulations.
    • Assist in analyzing and mitigating legal risks associated with business operations.
    • Support the legal team in developing policies and compliance programs.
    • Key areas of focus include privacy and data protection, and use of Generative AI.
  • Legal Research:
    • Conduct legal research on relevant issues and provide summaries.
    • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the fintech industry, including in relation to payments, privacy and data protection, and IP.
  • Employment Law Matters:
    • Provide support on employment-related legal matters.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of employment policies and procedures.


Qualifications


  • Currently enrolled in the law faculty at University of Victoria, Capilano University or Simon Fraser University.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in technology / fintech law, and familiarity with tech contracts, is a plus.

Compensation Package


FISPAN believes in an atmosphere and culture when innovation can flourish, collaboration and teamwork are valued and transparency is at the core of it all. We want our employees to see how the ideas they help generate today have an impact on how we do business tomorrow. With that, the salary range for this position is $3700 - $4500 monthly; the salary is based on comparable market data for similar jobs and job levels from companies of similar employee size, revenue and location. A candidate’s specific base salary will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, applicable experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, among other things.
