Via Ferrata Guide

You will provide a safe, unique and entertaining experience for guests to discover and explore Terminator Peak. You are well versed in the history of KHMR, Golden, and the Purcell mountains, with a passion for the outdoors. You will act as a guide on the Via Ferrata and a first responder to emergency situations anywhere on the mountain. You may also be requested to participate in bike trail daily checks and trail building and maintenance work. If you enjoy working outdoors and having adventures while you work, then this role is for you!

You will:

· Monitor and report on route and weather conditions and advise on route closures.

· Advise on repairs and assist with installations.

· Ensure the safety of guests by giving effective instruction through the Via Ferrata.

· Act as first responder in emergency or health or safety situations and dispatch resources.

· Liaise in emergency situations, communicating with key contacts until situation is resolved.

· Assess condition of injured parties; administer first aid treatment and transition to emergency personnel if required.

· Participate or lead in rope or helicopter evacuation of injured/sick guests

· Participate or lead in gondola and lift evacuation.

· Assist the Bike Park as required with risk management and incident response.

You:

· Have a current certification in an 80-hour First Aid program, preferably NUOFA3 and PEAK advanced protocols.

· Have SPRAT level 1 or higher certification - an asset.

· Have the ability to communicate effectively and multi-task under stress or time pressure.

· Are a high school graduate; completion of post-secondary education - an asset.

· Have previous experience in a safety, patrol, ropes rescue, or related outdoors role.

· Are comfortable accessing vertical rock environments.

· Are familiar with Kicking Horse Mountain Resort summer operations.

· Have previous organized rescue training - an asset

· Have knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety regulations.

· Have Class D fixed line rescue experience - an asset.

· Have previous guiding experience - an asset.

· Have previous trail building experience - an asset.

· Are physically able to ride your bike down some of the trails at KHMR.

Working Conditions

· Extended periods of exposure to extreme weather conditions on resort (cold, wind, snow, sun, altitude).

· Must be calm in high pressure situations.

· Must have physical strength and stamina to negotiate varied and difficult terrain while climbing/scrambling.

· Must have physical strength and stamina to engage in search and rescue activities, including navigating on foot through rough terrain and extreme conditions with rescue gear.

· Flexible shifts, including weekends, of up to ten hours required.
