NOTE: These are casual appointments ending December 2023. These courses will be taught during the day.

The School of Skilled Trades is seeking change oriented, team players to fill the role of casual instructor in the Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship and Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology programs. Programs will train students to maintain, repair and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial equipment.

These programs are seeking casual instructors to deliver a variety of program content on a course-by-course basis. Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present classes to students in a variety of modalities
  • Prepare, administer, and grade all course materials
  • Organize and supervise practical assignments
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for communications and presentations
  • Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues, respond professionally to student issues and concerns
  • Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required
  • Maintain regular contact with relevant industries and program related organizations

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Strong desire to help students succeed
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of computers and accessories.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of Heavy Equipment Technician Alberta Journeyperson certificate or provincial equivalent including Inter-Provincial Red Seal required
  • Minimum 5 years recent industry experience after completion of Journeyperson ticket preferred
  • Additional relevant post-secondary education and/or professional development training
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Highway truck experience an asset

Remuneration: $99.00 per scheduled instruction hour (Classification – NASA Instructor A)

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
