Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
This Part-Time Academic will be required to direct the Dalhousie Jazz Ensemble from September 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027 (Fall Term 2026 and Winter Term 2027). Rehearsals are held weekly, resulting in a public performance each term. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: organization of the membership; scheduling, planning, and preparation of rehearsals and concerts; overseeing the maintenance of the band music library and provision of a Method of Assessment.
The instructor must consult with the directors of the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra and Dalhousie Wind Ensemble regarding ensemble auditions and optimal placement of students. The instructor must also coordinate with the Associate Director of Productions and the productions administrator regarding the selection of concert repertoire within the context of the School’s multi-year plan. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.
All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Music, with significant training and successful professional experience as an orchestral or instrumental conductor; excellent organizational and communication skills; computer literacy.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
Per CUPE Collective Agreement
