Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 5114 Cardiorespiratory I – (Multiple Positions)

[Fall term, September 8th – December 20th, 2026, inclusive of exam period].
Labs occur weekly, on Thursdays 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm. Must be available for final OSCE Friday December 11th, 2026, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this course is for students to develop the competencies needed to provide safe, effective, evidence-based, patient-centered interventions for people with acute cardiopulmonary impairments and associated disabilities. Clinical reasoning is a key skill to achieving this goal. Students will be expected to use knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and movement science to inform and enhance their understanding of normal function of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and the interactions between these and other organ systems that affect patients’ health and well-being. Communication is another key skill needed to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients and their support networks, and to facilitate behavior change, a key component in the prevention and treatment of disease

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory demonstrator will assist the course faculty by teaching physical assessment, documentation, and/or practical treatment skills and techniques in the laboratory component of this course for Year 1 MScPT students. The laboratory demonstrator will also be asked to act as an examiner for mid-term (Thursday October 22nd , 2026) and final (Friday December 11th , 2026) practical exams and to evaluate the students’ performance throughout the course. Preparation in advance for each lab and to be knowledgeable about the content, will be required. Lab demonstrators will promote a professional environment for safe and effective student learning. Good interpersonal skills required to work with groups of students or for one-on-one interaction. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude toward students, fairness in evaluation and grading, and flexibility in approaches to teaching are also required.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists in good standing, with experience in the practice area of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. Candidates must be committed to promoting inclusion, equity, and accessibility in post-secondary education and across health care settings. There will be a lab demonstrator orientation session held prior to the start of the laboratory sessions, attendance at this session is required.
