Job summary
Job Summary: The Women Shelter Attendant will provide direct support and assistance to residents of the shelter, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. This role requires compassion, patience, and the ability to work collaboratively with both residents and shelter staff. Key Responsibilities: Resident Support: Assist residents with daily needs, including personal safety, emotional support, and resources for empowerment. Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe living environment. Facilitate access to health and community resources. Crisis Intervention: Respond to resident inquiries and potential crises with sensitivity and urgency. Utilize conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts among residents. Maintain a calm and supportive presence, especially during high-stress situations. Shelter Operations: Monitor shelter premises to ensure security and compliance with shelter policies. Conduct regular safety checks and assist in emergency procedures as needed. Upkeep cleanliness of shelter facility. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of resident interactions and incidents, reporting any concerns to the Shelter Manager. Assist in the preparation of reports and updates as requested by management. Qualifications: Experience in social services, crisis intervention, or similar roles, especially within a women’s shelter or support environment. Demonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding domestic violence, homelessness, and women's health. Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Checks. Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to show empathy and establish rapport with diverse populations. Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Physically able to complete daily tasks such as cleaning, lifting objects when needed and any activities that may take place. Class 5 drivers license and drivers abstract. Working Conditions: The Women Shelter Attendant will work in a dynamic environment that may require occasional lifting and a willingness to respond to various emotional and situational challenges. The role will involve interaction with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Due to the nature of this role only Female applicants will be considered. If you are selected, a current (within 3 months), clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check must be available at time of interview.
