EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY 1 CASUAL (EXISTING POSITION) Kitchen Coordinator Our purpose is to foster healthy Indigenous people, families, and communities. Our interprofessional teams include health professionals, educators, and support workers representing both traditional Indigenous and contemporary models of care, and use wholistic health and community development concepts. The program operates within the Supportive Services Program. Supportive Housing is a twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week service that offers an in-house nutrition program for clients to access healthy, wholesome and traditional foods according to the Healthy Food Policy and dietary needs of the Supportive Housing clients. NOTE: Traditional practices involving burning sacred medicines including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage and cedar and other cultural protocols occur regularly within our work setting. PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and prepare healthy meals and snacks that meet the nutritional needs of program clients (may include traditional cooking). Order and shop for staples, groceries, and supplies, keeping within the program budget allocation. Supervise and monitor kitchen, and dining areas ensuring safety and cleanliness. Maintain required documentation for food and kitchen operations. Assist with residents on request, documenting any actions or behaviour that warrants attention; attend staff meetings and case management meetings on request. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining area. Other duties as required. In extenuating situations or in an emergency, they may be redeployed to ensure essential services. QUALIFICATIONS: Safe food handling course, and previous experience working in food preparation and service. Ability to maintain sanitary conditions in cooking and dining areas, and clean facility as required. Knowledge of menu planning, food costing, and inventory control Willingness to work flexible hours. Sound understanding of Indigenous culture, values, and perspectives. Experience working in an Indigenous organization; ability to understand and speak anishinaabemowin a definite asset. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated capacity to function as part of a team. Valid drivers’ license and own vehicle; a willingness to travel if required. Current criminal/vulnerable persons records check. Commitment to ongoing training and professional development relevant to the job requirements. Proof of immunization in compliance with policy requirements is mandatory. Positive attitude and capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model. Salary: $29.17 per hour. Requirements
