Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province. Waypoint is proud to be affiliated with numerous colleges and universities, including its role as a University of Toronto teaching hospital and academic research centre. The Penetanguishene area boasts four-season lifestyle opportunities ranging from outdoor recreation to cultural activities, and combines a small town feel with easy access to many urban amenities. The Waypoint Research Institute is currently seeking three (3) temporary full-time research students. The interns will have the opportunity to work with Waypoint Research Institute staff on a wide variety of research studies. The students will be involved in conducting literature reviews; data collection; using statistical software to conduct basic analyses; summarizing collected data; and preparing reports. The ideal candidates are students who wish to pursue a career in scientific research with an interest in mental health and addictions. Please note: As these positions are linked to Canada Summer Jobs, the eligibility requirement for these positions is between the ages of 15-30. This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church Street, Penetanguishene, ON. **KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:** Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to - Conduct literature searches and reviews - Assist in preparing materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations - Participate in project meetings - Assist in preparation of research ethics proposals - Participate in data collection - Prepare data entry forms - Enter, verify and clean data - Participate in data analysis plans and assist with data analysis and summaries of results - Assist in preparing reports, articles, and presentations **REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:** - Registration in a University or College program required - Additional Undergraduate degree or college diploma in health-related field is an asset - Knowledge and demonstrated experience of research methods and statistical analysis is an asset - TCPS2 Certification preferred - Demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal and organizational skills - Proven ability to adapt readily to change - Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results - Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude - Knowledge of relevant sections of legislation required (i.e. Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act all requirements pertaining to confidentiality, privacy and security of patient information) - Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills **WHAT WE OFFER:** - Includes 4% vacation pay and 4% statutory holiday pay - Access to Waypoint’s Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) **HOW DO I APPLY?** Waypoint employees apply through the Employee Self-Service portal at https://employees.waypointcentre.ca and external applicants apply to Join our Team, Career Opportunities | Waypointby close of business (4:00 pm)on June 5th, 2026 quoting Job ID WC26-128.
