Casual Mill Production Worker

Who We Are Vanderwell is an Alberta, family-owned company that has been operating in northern Alberta for more than 80 years. We have a modern sawmill, planer mill, and pellet mill facilities, which produce dimensional lumber, wood pellets, shavings, and chips for wholesale customers. We’re a major employer in the local region, we have more than 150 employees working throughout the operation -- mill production, sales & shipping, woodlands, truck and mobile equipment shops, and administration. Contract and part-time employees are also employed in mill production, maintenance, transportation, and seasonal activities. The Opportunity Job Duties We are currently looking for individuals who are interested in becoming Casual Mill Production employees for our manufacturing facilities in Mitsue Industrial Park. Job duties include: Starts machines and confirms that all maintenance tasks have been performed and that the equipment functions correctly Operates a variety of machine centers in the sawmill, planer mill, and/or pellet plant Monitors conveyors for plug-ups Uses an air wand to blow dust and debris from trim saw area during crew breaks Cleans photo eyes and scanners as required Monitors product for deficiencies and reports issues to the shift supervisor Cleans and sprays work areas with water prior to hot work; participates in spark watch Sweeps floors and clears debris from work areas, walkways, and from around equipment Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor Working Conditions Exposed to noise, dust, falling debris, moving machinery, weather extremes, splinters, slipping and tripping hazards Lifting heavy, awkward objects and climbing on equipment is frequently required Required use of the appropriate PPE for the task and working conditions Must Have A solid work ethic, be eager to learn, and be a team player Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Mitsue Industrial Park Preference given to candidates with previous work experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting in a safety sensitive role Mill experience is an asset, but not required A valid first aid certificate is an asset, but not required Proficient written and verbal communication skills Available to be on call for a variety of shifts including: day, nights, or weekends If this position sounds like a fit for you, please apply directly through the portal. Operate various machine centers in the sawmill, planer mill, and pellet plant while monitoring conveyors and product quality. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by removing debris and performing basic equipment maintenance.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a strong work ethic. Previous experience in an industrial safety-sensitive role and a first aid certificate are considered assets.
