Job summary
Job Description Reporting through the Supervisor, Roads and under the direction of the Lead Hand performs infrastructure regulatory or construction maintenance programs for Town roads, sidewalks and boulevards including associated equipment operation, inspection and maintenance. This role also provides backup support for Operators in Water/Wastewater section of Public Works Services as required. This position will be required to fulfill the role of winter maintenance including Road Patrol, working the afternoon or night shift inclusive from November to the end of March. From April to October, afternoon shifts will be scheduled as required. Job Requirements Minimum Grade 12 diploma required and demonstrated previous experience in the infrastructure maintenance field including operating and maintenance programs, associated materials and supplies, health and safety regulations. Class “D” Driver’s License with Z-air brake endorsement in good standing. Significant experience in infrastructure maintenance for regulatory and construction programs related to roads, sidewalks boulevards, right-of-ways including all applicable drainage systems. Ability to operate all roads specialized industrial/heavy equipment including five-ton dump truck, front-end loader, equipment or able to operate by end of probation period and become familiar with operating other equipment used in Department. Significant experience in municipal winter maintenance programs for roadway snow removal for all classes of roads within the Town. Practical working knowledge of Municipal infrastructure operations, Minimum Maintenance Standards (MMS) Reg. 239-02, associated materials, equipment operations and maintenance procedures and applicable health and safety legislation. Confined Space Entry, Basic First Aid, CPR and WHIMIS Certification. Good communication, collaboration, coordination, organizational, problem solving and record-keeping skills. Familiarity with computers, mobile devices, and associated software such as Microsoft Office and Internet. Ability to adapt to changing technology. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, suppliers, contractors, other departments, levels of government and utilities. Ability to work in unfavourable conditions such as extreme cold, snow, rain, mud and to obtain results in a given time. Flexibility/availability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and/or respond to “after hours” problems as required. This position may be required to fulfill the role of winter maintenance including Road Patrol, working the afternoon or night shift inclusive from November to the end of March. From April to October, afternoon shifts will be scheduled as required. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
What you’ll do
Performs construction and regulatory maintenance for town roads, sidewalks, and boulevards using specialized heavy equipment. Provides winter maintenance support including road patrol and snow removal during the winter season.
Requirements
Requires a Grade 12 diploma, a Class D Driver's License with Z-air brake endorsement, and significant experience in municipal infrastructure maintenance. Must hold certifications in Confined Space Entry, First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS.
