Position: Equipment Operator I Vacancies: 2 Job Type: Full-Time Temporary - 6 Months Department: Public Works / Roads Reports to: Supervisor, Roads Pay Type: Hourly Expected Weekly Hours: 40 Grid Line: EA5 Hourly Rate: $33.69 Work Location: Public Works Job Posting Date: April 27, 2026 Job Closing Date: Open Until Filled General Accountability: Employee in this position will be responsible for the safe and skilled operation of equipment owned or leased by the Town. The Equipment Operator I must have knowledge of road, solid waste & recycling. This position will also be required to perform a wide variety of duties and tasks associated with position descriptions of equal or lesser responsibilities. The employee in this position must be able to communicate clearly and concisely and actively contribute to achieving team results. The incumbent must provide exceptional service to customers and internal partners and demonstrate initiative toward achieving organizational results and performance excellence. Duties: Skilled operator of heavy equipment such as: Single axle and tandem axle dump truck Manual garbage trucks or recycling trucks Packer Other equipment equal to the skills of this position Capable of performing basic maintenance on equipment applicable to this position. Ability to follow maintenance programs, procedures and schedules set by the Town. Train other subordinate staff. May be required to oversee other subordinate staff and/or tasks that would be equal to the skills and responsibilities of this position. Keep clear and accurate reports when needed. Will ensure that instructed duties, written or oral, are carried out efficiently and safely. Responsible to participate within the emergency “on-call” list. May be required to work shift work and/or weekends. Work must be performed in all weather conditions. Any tasks as assigned. Carry out maintenance on town infrastructure. Qualifications: Knowledge of the methods, practices, and rules of the safe operation of Town owned and leased equipment applicable to this position Knowledge of operation and maintenance in the area of Public Works, Waste and Recycling, and/or in the area of Utilities: Public Works area includes: asphalt roadways, gravel roadways, municipal concrete program, overland drainage, street lights, traffic control devices, street sweeping, and snow and ice control, solid waste, recycling. Knowledge in the operation and maintenance in the area of Utilities: Utilities includes area includes Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Storm Sewer systems. Be able to work independently or within a team Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Must be skilled at operating heavy equipment with 3 years-related experience Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work of this position Grade 12 or GED Must possess a valid Class 3Q Alberta Driver’s License Must be able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions The ability to obtain Standard First Aid with CPR Level C WHMIS Class 1 Alberta Driver’s License Formal training in the areas of Heavy Equipment Operation, Road Construction and Maintenance, Underground Utilities, Flag Person, and Team Leadership Possess H2S training Possess Confined Spaces training

Requirements
Candidates must have at least 3 years of related heavy equipment operating experience and possess a valid Class 3Q Alberta Driver’s License. A Grade 12 diploma or GED is required, along with the ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
