Location: Firehall 10, University of British Columbia (UBC) Duration: Aug. 4 to 29 (Aug 4 training day and equipment setup) Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (1 hr. lunch break and 15-minute breaks throughout the day) Transportation: Must provide own transportation to and from the job site About the Role Total Group of Companies is seeking an Industrial Firefighter to assist with fire hose testing and maintenance at Firehall 10 at the University of British Columbia. This is a temporary, physically demanding position in a fast-paced outdoor environment. The successful candidate must be prepared to handle fire hose throughout the shift and work as part of a team in varying weather conditions. Key Responsibilities Remove fire hoses from trucks Unload, lay out and organize fire hoses for testing Visually inspect hose jackets and couplings for defects Connect hoses to testing equipment, manifolds and fire hydrants Assist with filling and pressurizing hoses for testing Monitor test durations and pressure readings Identify leaks, failures or damage Record testing information and results in spreadsheets Drain, dry and re-roll hoses once testing is complete Re-rack tested equipment and reload it into trucks Clean and organize the work area and equipment Physically fit and able to repeatedly lift, move, and handle fire hose throughout the shift Able to work with hoses ranging from approximately 1.5 inches to 5 inches in diameter Comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors, rain or shine Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment Reliable and able to follow instructions and safe work procedures Comfortable recording information in spreadsheets Fire-service or industrial-fire experience is preferred Previous fire hose testing or equipment-maintenance experience is considered an asset
