Electrical Technician Smarter Alloys | Cambridge, ON Full-time, fixed-term contract (3-6 months) Not your typical panel shop At Smarter Alloys, you won’t be building the same control panel over and over. We develop advanced devices ranging from precision medical components to large-scale clean energy systems. The equipment varies, the designs evolve quickly, and many of the systems we build do not have an off-the-shelf solution. We’re looking for an Electrical Technician to support the assembly, wiring, modification, and testing of electrical control panels and equipment. You’ll work from electrical drawings and schematics, collaborate closely with our engineering team, and help ensure our systems are built in accordance with applicable CSA and ESA requirements. One week you may be assembling a new control panel from the ground up, and the next you may be modifying existing equipment, troubleshooting wiring, or helping select components for a new design. If you enjoy hands-on electrical work, solving practical problems, and working on a wide variety of equipment, this is that kind of role. What You’ll Do Build and wire electrical control panels, machinery, and equipment from electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials Install and wire components such as breakers, contactors, relays, power supplies, terminal blocks, disconnects, sensors, and motor-control equipment Modify existing panels and equipment to meet design requirements and applicable CSA C22.2 and ESA standards Route, terminate, label, and organize panel wiring Select appropriate wire types, conductor sizes, terminals, connectors, and electrical components Inspect and test completed wiring for continuity, workmanship, and compliance with drawings Troubleshoot electrical panels and equipment during assembly and commissioning Mark up drawings and communicate design changes or discrepancies to the engineering team Support component selection, supplier communication, quotations, purchasing, and material receiving Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area What We’re Looking For Diploma or certificate in an Electrical Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician/Technologist, Electromechanical Technician, Industrial Automation, Electrical Assembly, or similar program Previous experience building and wiring electrical control panels Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts Understanding of conductor sizes, wire types, termination methods, and electrical component ratings Familiarity with applicable ESA requirements and CSA electrical standards Experience using electrical assembly tools, crimpers, ferrules, terminals, and test equipment Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship Good communicator who works well with engineers, technicians, and suppliers Able to work independently and identify issues before they become problems Strong safety habits and an organized approach to work Nice to Haves Experience with industrial control panels, motor-control panels, or custom equipment Familiarity with CSA C22.2 No. 286, SPE-1000, or industrial control panel certification requirements Experience wiring PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, motors, sensors, and instrumentation Experience troubleshooting three-phase industrial electrical systems Familiarity with 600 V, 480 V, 240 V, and 120 V equipment Experience working in a prototype or high-mix, low-volume environment Electrical drafting or drawing-markup experience Experience supporting panel inspections, field evaluations, or ESA approval processes Why Smarter Alloys Interesting work - you’ll build electrical systems for advanced medical, industrial, and clean energy technologies Variety - new panel builds, equipment modifications, troubleshooting, and commissioning support Ownership - small team, meaningful responsibility; your ideas and workmanship directly affect the finished system Collaboration - work closely with engineers and technicians to turn designs into functional equipment Impact - help bring innovative technologies from prototype development to full-scale operation About Us Smarter Alloys is a Cambridge, Ontario-based company at the forefront of the shape memory alloy industry.
