Each year, more than 14 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer and more than eight million people die from the disease. New tools are urgently needed to better prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer so that people can live longer and healthier lives. The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is a collaborative, not-for-profit research institute that conducts and enables high-impact translational cancer research to accelerate the development of discoveries for patients around the world while maximizing the economic benefit of this research for the people of Ontario. OICR is ensuring Ontario’s world-class cancer research findings are benefiting patients and the Ontario economy. The student will support cancer clinical trial data management by updating trial records and developing plain-language summaries. They will also assist with informatics activities, including data analysis, reporting, and the evaluation of digital tools to improve workflows.

The technician will perform sample accessioning, histology, and DNA/RNA extraction from human tissues within the Diagnostic Development team. They are responsible for maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with laboratory accreditation standards.

The Research Technician will perform molecular biology laboratory techniques such as PCR and qPCR to support genomic research projects. They are also responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, documenting experimental results, and ensuring compliance with ISO 15189/CLIA standards.
