Job summary
POSITION GOAL: We are seeking a skilled Tool Designer to support the development and production of bus structures. In this role, you will design and develop tooling solutions that ensure the fit, form, function, and repeatability of structural components. You will create tools, fixtures, patterns, gauges, and specialized equipment to meet production requirements, while also providing hands‑on support to manufacturing teams across all production lines. This position plays a key role in driving quality, efficiency, and consistency throughout the build process. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Produce drawings to New Flyer drafting standards for all plants and vendors Adapt to new methods, processes, material, and equipment Design tools, fixtures, jigs, patterns, gauges, and special tooling aids for operations on production parts Determine the materials to be used for each detail, the heat treatment specifications, the working limits on the layout etc Incorporate concepts from engineers, tooling, and production personnel into drawings Draw layouts to scale, solve problems of operations and show all part and assembly drawings with dimensions Change existing drawings as needed to conform with engineering changes in the product or because of production or tooling difficulties Make on-the-job sketches of changes in the tooling and incorporate these changes in the master drawings on Unigraphics Determine a material order list as well as a cut list with quantities and sizes of parts Produce an electronic file as well as a hard copy of the tooling Instruct and help employees within the tool & die department as well as outside vendors working on New Flyer tooling. as to production requirements and changes Requirements Ability to use Computer‑Aided Design tools and understand their application in tooling design Ability to create accurate on‑the‑job sketches Experience with Computer‑Aided Design systems, including Unigraphics CAD Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills Self‑motivated and able to work independently Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities Strong organizational and multi‑tasking skills Tool Maker License (considered an asset) Travel may be required up to 5% Benefits OUR WHY: We exist to move people.
