Job summary

The Construction Division of Makivvik is non-profit organization responsible for implementing the Inuit Housing Program in Nunavik. Its main objective is to build quality housing while maximizing employment opportunities for Inuit, providing training and promoting the local economy as much as possible. Reports to: The Construction Division Director in the President’s Department Working conditions: The role is carried out on construction sites in Nunavik and on a rotational schedule of 28 days in the North followed by 14 days in the south. Transportation, accommodation and meals are entirely provided by the employer. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, coordinate and follow the prevention activities on the construction sites in Nunavik; Carry out inspections regularly on the job sites, the temporary installations and the work sites to identify at-risk situations; Ensure the application of the prevention programs, of safe working practices and the regulatory requirements specific to construction sites; Participate in the opening of job sites, to the OHS documentation monitoring and in the implementation of prevention measures and the required participation; Collaborate with the project managers, foremen, subcontractors and workers to ensure a rigorous risk management; Participate in incident and accident investigations and analyses and ensure a follow-up on corrective measures; Host OHS meetings, sensitization activities and welcoming new workers; Ensure the conformity of individual safety equipment, required permits and the emergency procedures of construction sites; Compile data, produce OHS reports and recommend areas of continuous improvement adapted to northern realities; Be available to travel; Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: Official Certificate of Health and Safety Coordinator delivered by the CNESST (Ahuntsic College); Good knowledge of the regulations applicable to the construction sector in Quebec and the mechanisms of prevention on job sites; Experience working on job sites located in remote or northern regions, or fly-in/fly-out Knowledge of logistical, climatic and operational challenges specific to Nunavik; Proficiency of oral and written French; intermediate English; Effective Computer skills: Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.); Leadership, good judgement, autonomy and capability to positively influence preventive behaviour; Excellent skills in communication, in hosting meetings and team building; Sensitivity to cultural realities and ability to establish respectful working relationships with the communities and local teams Security clearance is required.
