Summary JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors, and staff.Reporting to the Manager, Medical Equipment and Supplies, the Coordinator, Equipment and Supply and Medical Device Reprocessing, provides leadership, expert advice, and operational oversight to ensure the effective management of equipment, supplies, and medical device reprocessing across perioperative areas, anaesthesia, surgical clinics, and the Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD). This floating resource position provides flexible coverage across PHC, including the Medical Device Reprocessing Department and the Medical Equipment & Supply service. Responsibilities include assessing needs, coordinating evaluations, implementing systems, facilitating product standardization, monitoring effectiveness, coordinating the availability of supplies and equipment, troubleshooting operational issues, and liaising with internal and external partners. The Coordinator supervises designated staff, provides guidance and training, monitors quality and safety standards, develops and implements new methods and procedures, and contributes to the development and updating of departmental and program-wide policies, procedures, and standards.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training and Experience:Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN, plus three (3) years’ recent, related experience in perioperative nursing, medical device reprocessing, or operating room practice in a large acute care facility; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Completion of a medical device reprocessing theory course, supply chain, or related equipment management training would be considered an asset.Skills and Abilities:• Comprehensive knowledge and practice of safe work procedures within a medical device reprocessing setting.• Broad knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care.• Broad knowledge of instruments and equipment utilized in an acute care hospital.• Knowledge of principles of purchasing, inventory, and supply chain management.• Ability to supervise, teach, demonstrate techniques, and facilitate learning.• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.• Ability to function as an effective team member, leader, and facilitator.• Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer software applications.• Ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills.• Ability to deal with others effectively.• Ability to organize and prioritize work while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency.• Ability to deal with and promote change and guide others in resolution of conflict issues.• Ability to match skills of staff with clinical needs.• Ability to collaborate with other members of an interdisciplinary team.• Physical ability to perform or carry out the duties of the position.• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, workflows, and service areas.Supervises designated staff by scheduling and coordinating daily work assignments, monitoring workload distribution, reviewing performance, and identifying training, orientation, and professional development needs.Provides coaching, mentoring, and acts as a resource to staff for technical, clinical, and workflow problem-solving within perioperative areas and the MDRD.Coordinates equipment and supply planning, including needs assessments, product evaluations, vendor engagement, procurement processes, and ensuring alignment with clinical priorities and budgetary constraints.Leads and facilitates equipment and supply standardization initiatives to support cost-effectiveness, quality, safety, and consistency across the Surgical Program.Monitors availability, utilization, and stock levels of equipment and supplies, implementing systems and processes to ensure reliable access, prevent shortages, and minimize disruptions to patient care.Develops, implements, and evaluates quality and safety standards, procedures, and performance indicators, ensuring compliance with infection prevention, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.Oversees preventative maintenance schedules, repair coordination, and service contracts to support safe, effective, and cost-efficient operation of equipment and instruments.Develops, updates, and communicates policies, procedures, and workflow guidelines for equipment, supply, and reprocessing practices, and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency and safety.Collaborates and liaises with physicians, nurses, allied health staff, site leadership, vendors, procurement teams, and regional health authority stakeholders to align equipment and supply management with clinical needs and organizational goals.Coordinates and supports orientation, education, and in-services for staff on new equipment, supply use, and medical device reprocessing standards.Participates in research, evaluation, and technology assessments to guide decisions on new or replacement equipment and supplies.Keeps current with innovations, emerging trends, and best practices in perioperative supply chain management, surgical equipment, and medical device reprocessing.Assists with capital and operating budget planning, monitoring, and variance analysis, preparing business cases and recommendations to inform equipment and supply decisions.Identifies and implements opportunities for cost savings, reinvestment, and improved resource utilization to strengthen the Surgical Program.Troubleshoots and responds to user department issues or concerns regarding equipment, supplies, and reprocessing services in a timely and solutions-oriented manner.Represents the Surgical Program on committees, task forces, and accreditation teams, ensuring program needs are communicated and integrated into broader organizational planning.
