As per current AUPE Collective Agreement ($19.24 – 22.74/hour)

Educational Qualifications
- Must be registered with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) in order to work as a Health Care Aide in Alberta.
- Food Safe 1 is required (post July 29, 2013) or equivalent for BC employees and Food Safety Basic or equivalent for Alberta employees.
Work Experience
- Experience working with the elderly is preferred,
- Palliative care experience an asset
- Experience with diagnoses of dementia and various mobility disorders an asset
- You will provide assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, meal service and leisure activities and other related duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic computer skills an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner
- Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing so others can easily interpret and understand it fully
- Exhibits an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
- Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues
- Maintains an individual’s dignity and self-worth during conversations and care
- Excellent active listening skills
- Demonstrates flexibility by changing routine to accommodate client/resident needs
- Accepts, implements and evaluates change with a positive attitude
Requirements:
- A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and if applicable a Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date.
- A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
Additional Information:
This position has many consecutive hours of repetitive motion tasks such as, but not limited to, standing, kneeling, crouching, bending reaching, pushing, pulling, overhead reaching, lifting, transferring and portering of up to bariatric clients. Previous experience with day programs, dementia diagnoses and mobility disturbances is preferred.
