Are you passionate about providing compassionate, hands-on care to youth during a critical stage in their lives? The Red Deer Protective Safe House is seeking a dedicated Undergraduate Nurse (RN/RPN), (UNE) to join our multidisciplinary team at PChAD, a youth detox and treatment facility. As an UNE, you will be responsible for delivering safe, trauma-directed nursing care to youth in detox and early recovery. This includes monitoring physical and mental health, administering medications, and supporting recovery goals. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, fostering a respectful, culturally safe environment that promotes healing and dignity. Description:

The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centred care with the supervision of the RN or RPN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Recovery Alberta policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.

Required Qualifications:

Current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse. Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate. Successful completion of 3rd year of an RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or currently in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program; or successful completion of 2nd year of an RPN nursing education program and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be able to work as an undergraduate nurse. Must be able to respond appropriately to situations requiring physical intervention. Physical capabilities required include lifting, bending, and participating in activity with the youth

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates must have experience working with youth and families, preferably in mental health or addictions settings. Experience with addictions care and/or completion of specialized addiction training is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate strong critical thinking and clinical judgment skills, along with training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Trauma-Informed Care principles
