Location: School District Office – Various Schools

Hourly Rate: _$_31.16

Shift (subject to change): September to June:

Mondays and Fridays _:_8 _:_00 a.m. to 4:0 0 __p.m

Tuesday-Thursdays: 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p .m.

July to August:

8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Hours per Day/Week: 7 _hours per day /_35 h ou rs per week

Months per Year: 1 2

HOMESTAY FACILITATOR

**Division:**Assistants

**Reports to:**District Principal of International Education

Daily Reporting to: Homestay Manager

** Job Summary **

With regular direction by the Homestay Manager and/or Principal, the Homestay Facilitator supports the efficient operation of the Homestay Program and fosters community engagement with international student initiatives. They work cooperatively with other employees, students, agents, parents, and the public. The role requires regular travel throughout the district and the ability to respond quickly to student and host family concerns.

**Duties and Responsibilities **

  • Provides guidance and support to international students.
  • Provides recruitment, assessment, and support of host and potential homestay families for the District's International Student Program, ensuring all required documentation is completed (criminal record checks, reference checks, accuracy of host family profile).
  • Conducts regular check ins and ongoing monitoring of homestay placements through face to face visits, telephone contact, and written communications.
  • Liaises with host families, international students/families, school administration, teachers, counselors, medical professionals, and other school district personnel as well as with district's agents in other countries.
  • Match student profiles with appropriate host families and consult with District International Program staff and agents to determine placements and relocation recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain regular communications with host families and students regarding arrival/departure schedules, student activities, travel applications, and other program matters.
  • Assists with planning and organizing orientation meetings for homestay families and international students; coordinate networking meetings for host families.
  • Assists in the development and review of homestay program policies and procedures.
  • Work with administrators, school staff and agents to assess and resolve homestay issues, cultural differences and crisis situations; be available on call as part of a rotational schedule with the Homestay Team for emergency issues.
  • Accompany international students as a chaperone on a variety of district excursions/trips and school events as required.
  • Works in a variety of settings including school, host family homes, and other community locations.
  • Perform other comparable duties within the scope of the role and the collective agreement.
  • Performs other emergent duties.

**Equipment Used **

Computer/laptop, photocopier, cellular phone, and other office related equipment.

**Required Knowledge, Ability, Skills **

  • High school diploma Grade 12 graduation plus an additional program of over one year and up to including two years or equivalent
  • Two years previous experience working with youth and community in a cross-cultural environment within K-12 education, plus on-the-job learning specific to the role; such as learning district policies, understanding the community.
  • Red Cross Emergency First Aid & CPR Level C
  • Red Cross Psychological First Aid - Caring for Others preferred but ability to obtain after being hired.
  • Strong time management, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to assess, mediate, and resolve complex situations using tact, cultural sensitivity and professionalism, when handling contacts of a difficult or specialized nature, by presenting or obtaining detailed information.
  • Proficiency in English. Other languages an asset.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), graphic design tools and web-based applications/databases.
  • Possession of a valid BC driver's license, access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance, and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to respond to emergent after-hours situations when required
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
  • Ability to work with constant interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain close attention to detail for periods of sustained duration and to meet deadlines.
