IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim Vice President, Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Location: cottage country, Ontario (Accommodation provided) Duration: 6 Month Hybrid
An Ontario-based acute care hospital is seeking an experienced Interim VP Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) to provide executive leadership during a period of transition. Reporting to the CEO, this role will ensure stability, strategic continuity, and performance improvement across the clinical portfolio while preparing the organization for a critical accreditation milestone. This is not a maintenance mandate. The organization requires a seasoned interim leader to lead, stabilize, and elevate performance across patient services while supporting a newly evolving leadership structure.
Key Objectives
Provide Executive Stewardship and Stability Act as a senior leader and trusted advisor to the CEO and executive team Provide clear, decisive leadership across Patient Services during a period of transition Ensure alignment across clinical programs, professional practice, and operational priorities Reinforce accountability, governance discipline, and leadership standards Lead Accreditation Readiness (Spring 2027) Take full ownership of accreditation preparation and readiness Assess current state against standards and rapidly close gaps Mobilize clinical teams, directors, and frontline leadership Ensure the organization is not only compliant, but positioned to perform strongly during the onsite review Elevate Patient Experience and Quality Outcomes Drive measurable improvements in patient experience, quality, and wait times Translate the Quality Improvement Plan into practical operational execution Embed a culture of continuous improvement and patient-centered care Coach and Strengthen Leadership Capability Provide hands-on coaching to newly hired and emerging leaders Support onboarding, capability development, and decision-making rigour Stabilize and align the Patient Services leadership team, including newly established roles Advise on Strategy, Growth, and Hospital Development Provide executive insight to the CEO and Board on clinical services strategy Contribute to hospital development planning, including program flows and patient experience design Support development of a forward-looking Clinical Services Plan aligned to future capacity needs Drive Organization-Wide Change and Engagement Lead change initiatives across clinical services and broader hospital operations Strengthen cross-functional collaboration and engagement Reinforce alignment with organizational values and leadership expectations
Scope of Role The interim will oversee the full Patient Services portfolio, including nursing and clinical programs, and will work closely with: CEO and Executive Leadership Team Patient Services Directors and clinical leadership Medical leadership and professional staff Board and key committees (including patient experience and ethics-related structures) External stakeholders, including regional health partners and Ontario Health Team partners
Ideal Interim Profile
Experience & Capability Proven executive healthcare leader (VP/CNE level) with strong clinical credibility Track record leading accreditation or major quality/regulatory reviews Demonstrated success leading through transition, ambiguity, or leadership gaps Deep experience driving patient experience, quality improvement, and operational performance Experience advising CEOs and Boards on clinical strategy and organizational priorities
