Lead Rental Technician : 4 Month Contract

Multi-Site: BRAMPTON, ETOBICOKE & MISSISSAUGA Pay Range: $30 - $32

Certifications

Role Focus: You will act as a field-based technical expert responsible for complex equipment repairs and the safe, efficient transport of machinery across diverse, high-traffic, and challenging environments.

Technical Expectations: The role requires advanced proficiency in diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems. You must be able to interpret complex technical manuals and parts diagrams to perform high-level repairs and utilize systematic troubleshooting methods to solve sophisticated mechanical problems.

Customer & Operational Support: Beyond technical repairs, you will serve as a primary client-facing representative, managing customer inquiries and complaints with a commitment to exceeding service expectations. You will also perform specialized field operations, including driving delivery trucks, navigating congested urban zones, and managing the safe loading and transport of towable equipment.

Position Overview

The Lead Rental Technician (LRT) serves as the subject matter experts in large equipment (LE) operation and repair. The LRTs are responsible for: ensuring LE rental readiness, providing LE technical expertise to customers and store Tool Rental Centre (TRC) associates, performing general maintenance and repair of rental fleet in assigned stores. LRTs must plan and coordinate their day by balancing the priorities of the rental business objectives, TRC store location’s LE maintenance and repair needs; while executing on the processes, behaviors, and expectations for meeting rental standards and customer’s needs. The LRT must uphold The Home Depot’s core values and project a positive image. While maintaining a high level of professionalism, following The Home Depot’s safety policies and procedures are critical to performing their role as lead Rental Technician. Each associate has the responsibility of providing a safe working environment by following all safety policies & standards.

Key Responsibilities

Preventative Maintenance and Repairs

Responsible for maintaining a fleet of rental equipment at store and company shop locations, and customer job sites. Ensure fleet inventory accuracy and GPS system is operational, with 3 points of security on all towable equipment. Complete major repairs for LE fleet in assigned store locations. Diagnose, maintain, and repair all components of the equipment/trailer, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and order parts within 48 hours of a tool being placed on the Down List. Notify Regional Rental Manager (RRM) of any delays.

Daily responsibilities and expectations

Lead Rental Technicians are responsible for fostering a culture of customer service & support and should GET involved with TRC associates to provide the solutions our rental customers need to successfully complete their projects. Obtains parts needed for repairs and while maintaining timely and accurate parts inventory. Assists with equipment deployment, deliveries and auctions as required. Maintain vehicle compliance in accordance with company, provincial regulations and Ministry of Transportation guidelines and maintain & certify accurate Electronic Logging Device (ELD - Samsara), Hours of Service (HOS) driver logs/vehicle inspections and vehicle documentation. Deploys new equipment to store locations, including performing pre-delivery inspections (PDI), delivering to the store. Maintains accurate fleet inventory and transfer equipment between locations. Communicate clearly, both verbal and written, partnering with store TRC associates, teammates, and customers. Coordinate with RRM to provide training and support to Store TRCs on LE standards operating procedures (SOP) and best practices. Respond to customer service calls by responding to emails with relevant status updates, coordinating with customer on facilitating repair, and arriving on-site within 24 hours. Check in with RRM at beginning and end of day.

Documentation

Utilize equipment reporting to formulate efficient service strategies with Mobile Service Technicians (MSTs) to ensure timely completion of all open RSN tickets, repairs, store/lift Inspections, PMs, and Safety Campaigns/Bulletins and communicate prioritization to RRM. Utilizes company technology platform to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts. Lay out workflow process prioritizing key action items to improve efficiency. Communicate any LE rental status updates to store TRC associates and ensure work orders are completed in D365 including documentation for all parts and repairs.

Safety Compliance

Work in accordance with all safety protocols by following all Home Depot policies, such as: Home Depots standards of Performance, safe driving practices, using proper lifting techniques, and utilizing all necessary and prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow all safety and Hazmat procedures. Maintain Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) certifications and store inspection compliance. Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements

May require overnight travel less than 15% of the time.

Physical Requirements

May include physical demands such as lifting (up to 50 lbs.) from the waist, lifting from the shoulder, prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, crawling underneath equipment, climbing on top of equipment, reaching, and stretching. Environment will require repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements, including skilled work with fingers. Occasionally, employee will be required to work at heights and climb onto equipment. Parking lot work: working outdoors in extreme hot and cold temperatures; working around dirt, grease, fumes, oils, and chemicals; prolonged exposure to loud noises from engines, compressors, power tools, and equipment.

Other Requirements/Assets

Must be 18 year or older. Must be legally permitted to work in Canada. Must pass a background check. Resides within 25 kms of target city or willing to commute to base location. Regular scheduled shifts may include weekends and may be asked to work outside of regularly scheduled shifts. Working knowledge of handheld technology (ex. smartphone, laptop, tablet, applications, etc.). Must provide own standard tools used in the trade/craft.
