About the role

Medical Office Assistant, Pediatrics, Infectious Disease Primary Purpose: Join the Pediatric Infectious Disease team and help to ensure the delivery of health care to the children of Saskatchewan. Duties will include general medical office work, including scheduling, billing, preparing and managing documents, accessing and managing information in the electronic medical record, and helping to ensure the smooth functioning of the Division.

Nature of Work: The position reports to the Finance and Administration Manager and the Infectious Disease Division within the Department of Pediatrics. The work is collaborative and involves interacting with members of other Divisions and the wider Department, with external partners and with the family members of patients. The Department seeks to continue a cooperative, positive work environment.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Use of existing electronic medical record systems (MedAccess/SCM); scheduling appointments, medical tests, and clinic days; transcribing dictation, preparing and managing clinical and general correspondence; telephone and office reception; filing, billing, and processing mail; and performing other clerical duties as assigned. Education: Completion of Grade 12 and a medical secretarial diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution. Current medical terminology and transcription training are required.

Experience: Two to five years of clinical secretarial experience is required. Experience in a fast-paced, complex setting is preferred.

Skills: effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; demonstrate effective organization and time management skills; proven ability to work on multiple projects with competing demands to meet deadlines; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; proficient with transcription and thorough knowledge and understanding of medical terminology; working knowledge / experience with EMR platforms, eHR Viewer, Excel, Power Point, and other common office software is required. Department: Pediatrics Status: Term 3 months Employment Group: CUPE 1975 Shift: Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30 Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0 Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $24.74 - 31.37 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
