The Dino's in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Sports Information Coordinator for approximately 8 months.
Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Coordinator, Sports Information is responsible for the accurate and timely communication of information related to Dinos Athletics. The position has a broad range of focus areas, including media relations, statistical reporting, website content, and official records management across 23 varsity programs.
The work environment is fast-paced and highly visible, requiring the incumbent to manage multiple priorities, simultaneous deadlines, and competing stakeholder needs throughout the year.
The flexible work schedule is 35 hours per week, with the peak period of work occurring from September 1 through April 30 each year. Evening and weekend work is a core component of this role.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Media Relation & Content Creation
Lead the development of written content, including game recaps, previews, feature stories, media releases, and other communications materials that promote Dinos Athletics. Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and coordinate interviews involving student-athletes, coaches, and departmental representatives. Develop and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to enhance awareness and coverage of Dinos Athletics. Ensure the timely and accurate dissemination of information to media partners and stakeholders. Support the Manager, Communications with strategic communications initiatives and issue management as required.
Statistics & Reporting
Coordinate the collection, verification, and submission of official statistics for all varsity programs in accordance with Canada West, U SPORTS, and sport-specific requirements. Oversee game operations related to scorekeeping and statistical reporting at home events. Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of statistical records and reporting processes. Nominate student-athletes for various conference, national, and other awards. Assist the Manager, Communications with television, radio, and web broadcast production requirements, as necessary.
Website & Historical Records
Lead the maintenance and ongoing management of GoDinos.com, ensuring content is current, accurate, and aligned with departmental priorities. Coordinate updates to schedules, rosters, biographies, results, and news content. Maintain and organize historical records, statistical archives, and milestone achievements for Dinos Athletics. Respond to requests for historical information and support research related to departmental records and accomplishments. Collaborate with the Coordinator, Digital Media to ensure website content complements broader storytelling initiatives and digital priorities.
Qualifications / Requirements:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, sport management, or an equivalent field is required. A minimum of one to three years of experience in sports information, communications, journalism, media relations, or a related field, preferably in a university, athletics, sport environment. Demonstrated experience writing and editing a variety of communications materials, including game recaps, previews, feature stories, media releases, and award nominations. Experience coordinating media relations activities and working directly with journalists, broadcasters, and other media stakeholders. Experience collecting, maintaining, and reporting official statistics in accordance with governing body requirements. Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Experience working with website content management systems and maintaining digital content. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of Canada West, U SPORTS, and the Canadian university athletics landscape is considered an asset. Experience supervising or mentoring part-time staff or student assistants is considered an asset.
