Who we need
Reporting to the laboratory supervisor, we are hiring an Analyst 1 – Particle Size to join the laboratory operations team at Bureau Veritas. This role supports environmental sample analysis through particle size testing and related gravimetric and instrumentation-based procedures. You will be responsible for accurate sample preparation, analysis of soil samples, data entry into LIMS, and maintaining compliance with strict quality and turnaround requirements.
This is a hands-on laboratory role requiring strong attention to detail, discipline in following SOPs, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven scientific environment.
This contract role is scheduled to run through to December 18, 2026 and is based in our Bedford, Nova Scotia office, working on-site five days per week.

How you will make an impact
Perform particle size and gravimetric analysis. You will conduct laboratory testing on soil samples using standardized gravimetric methods and instrumentation, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility of results. Prepare and manage samples. You will organize daily sample workload based on turnaround time (TAT) and holding time requirements, ensuring all samples are properly prepared, labeled, stored, and tracked. Maintain accurate documentation and data entry. You will record raw data, complete working records, and enter results into Excel and LIMS systems in accordance with SOPs and quality requirements. Support laboratory readiness. You will prepare reagents, clean and maintain glassware, and ensure workstations are organized, safe, and fully operational. Monitor equipment and quality compliance. You will perform routine checks, maintain instrument logs, and ensure all analytical work meets internal quality standards and client specifications. Communicate operational updates. You will proactively update your supervisor on workstation status, including any risks to turnaround time or sample delays. Contribute to a safe lab environment. You will follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures while maintaining good housekeeping standards across the laboratory.
What you bring
Laboratory experience. Exposure to SOP-driven lab environments and basic instrumental or analytical techniques is an asset. Technical and analytical skills. Comfortable working with balances, meters, and standard lab instrumentation, with strong attention to procedural accuracy. Organizational ability. Able to manage multiple samples simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines and holding time requirements. Attention to detail. Disciplined approach to documentation, labeling, and data integrity. Team and independent work capability. Able to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative laboratory team. Work flexibility. Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required to meet operational demands. Education. Technical diploma required; B.Sc. preferred.
Compensation
This posting is required to meet our seasonal capacity. The hourly rate for this role is $18. Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to support parts of the recruitment and selection process; however, all hiring decisions are made by our hiring managers and talent acquisition team.
