About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer (Plant Thermal Hydraulics Validations) based in Canada. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of next-generation energy technologies through advanced thermal-hydraulic modeling and validation activities. The Senior Engineer will support critical verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification efforts for plant-scale analysis tools used in complex reactor systems. Working at the intersection of simulation, experimentation, and engineering design, this position plays a key role in improving model accuracy, reliability, and regulatory readiness. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to evaluate computational models, analyze experimental data, and strengthen safety and performance assessments. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced thermal-hydraulics professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and contributing to innovative energy solutions. The role provides the flexibility of remote work while supporting high-impact engineering initiatives. \n
Accountabilities Support verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification activities for plant-scale thermal-hydraulic analysis tools. Perform system-level steady-state and transient thermal-hydraulic simulations to evaluate model behavior, accuracy, performance, and limitations. Analyze and interpret experimental data from separate-effects and integral test facilities to validate models and address technical gaps. Define validation requirements, identify modeling needs, and collaborate with test engineering teams to align experimental programs with simulation objectives. Develop and maintain documentation covering validation methodologies, model assumptions, simulation results, and uncertainty analyses for engineering reviews and regulatory submissions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams supporting plant design, safety analysis, and licensing activities. Apply software quality assurance practices, including configuration control, traceability, and documentation standards for engineering models and analysis results. Contribute to continuous improvement of modeling approaches, validation processes, and technical workflows. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with 6+ years of relevant experience; advanced degrees may be considered equivalent. Demonstrated experience with system-level thermal-hydraulic analysis and code assessment for nuclear systems, advanced reactors, or other complex energy applications. Proven experience performing model validation activities, including model-to-test comparisons, validation metric development, and uncertainty quantification. Hands-on experience analyzing experimental thermal-hydraulic data, evaluating uncertainties, and comparing results against system-level predictions. Experience using system analysis tools such as RELAP5-3D, TRACE, SAS, or equivalent thermal-hydraulic simulation platforms. Strong understanding of thermal-fluid behavior, reactor systems, and advanced energy system design considerations. Familiarity with software quality assurance (SQA) and NQA-1 quality practices for engineering modeling workflows is highly preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple technical activities simultaneously. Excellent technical communication skills, including the ability to clearly document and present complex engineering analyses. Benefits Competitive hourly compensation range of $56–$95 per hour. Fully remote work opportunity. Opportunity to contribute to advanced reactor and next-generation energy technology initiatives. Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering projects involving simulation, testing, safety analysis, and licensing. Flexible contract-based work environment supporting complex technical challenges. Opportunity to apply and expand expertise in thermal-hydraulics, validation methodologies, and advanced modeling practices.
