Full-Time, Temporary (8 Weeks)

Seasonal Communications and Fundraising Assistant

(35 hours/week)

Waterloo, Ontario

Karis Disability Services is seeking a Seasonal Communications and Fundraising Assistant to support our Communications and Fundraising teams during a busy and impactful season. This entry-level position is ideal for a student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in communications, marketing, donor relations, and event support within a mission-driven organization.

In this role, you will contribute to both internal and external communications initiatives while helping deliver meaningful donor experiences that strengthen community engagement and support Karis’ mission.

Responsibilities:

Communications Support

  • Assist with internal and external communications, including email campaigns and coordinating content for the intranet.

  • Produce high-quality, engaging communications materials

  • Support the creation of newsletters, presentations, website content, and news releases

  • Assist in the design, production, and distribution of publications and documents

  • Assist in the development and scheduling od social media posts and campaigns

  • Proofread and edit communications, marketing, and fundraising materials

  • Support media relations activities, including basic media monitoring and measurement

  • Provide administrative support to the Communications team

Fundraising Support

  • Assist in building donor relationships through personalized outreach (phone calls and emails)

  • Support grant research, coordination, and writing

  • Assist with fundraising programs and donor events, including Family Camp and Belongathon

  • Support the Donor Relations Specialist with event logistics, materials, agendas, and donor inquiries

  • Assist with tracking and reporting related to fundraising events

Requirements:

  • Funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program, the candidate will work 35 hours per week for 8 weeks. The successful candidate should be between the ages of 18 to 30 at the start of employment, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee, and be legally entitled to work in Canada as per the Canada Summer Jobs participant eligibility criteria.

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a college or university program in:

    • Communications
    • Public Relations
    • Journalism
    • Marketing
    • Business
    • Fundraising or a related field
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and desktop publishing tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop)

  • Knowledge of basic graphic design principles

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse audiences

  • Comfort using digital tools, databases, and virtual meeting platforms
