After School Program Site Lead 

Temporary Part Time  

HOURS OF WORK:           17.00 Hours/Week

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 3

START DATE/TERM:         September 8, 2026 - June 30, 2027              

REPORTS TO:                    Supervisor, Community Support and Prevention Services


POSITION SUMMARY:

The After School Program Lead takes responsibility for organizing activities, maintaining safety, and providing a consistently well-run, high quality program. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead an After School Program for school-age children (ages 4-12), based on the guidelines provided.
  • Plan and organize a safe environment and supervise children to protect their safety and personal well-being at all times while in the program. 
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Assist and support children to complete homework and other academic activities (in both groups and one-to-one).
  • Plan physical activity program for up to 60 minutes a day. 
  • Design and implement art, STEM, nutrition, cooking, anti-bullying, health information activities, social skills, and other curriculums as required.
  • Create and submit weekly program plans. 
  • Maintain up-to-date program records, including attendance 
  • Communicate with parents/caregivers and teachers on a daily basis to provide updates. 
  • Offer online programs as required.
  • Set up and prepare classrooms according to the policies and guidelines provided. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field such as Early Childhood Educator, Recreation and Leisure Services, Child and Youth Worker, Social Worker, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Kinesiology, etc.
  • 2 years’ experience working with school-age children in a recreation or academic setting. 
  • Experience in behaviour management, and conflict resolution 
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with parents/families, colleagues, school personal and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities. 
  • Strong academic skills and ability to help with homework (Kindergarten to grade 6). 
  • Strong skills in, knowledge of and ability to lead physical activity, health and nutrition and social skills activities.
  • Proven track record in using positive, effective strategies to lead activities with groups of children.
  • Ability to prioritize. 
  • Experience working with children with extra support needs. 
  • Food handler’s certificates an asset.
  • Computer coding and experience with Scratch and Python is an asset. 
  • High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) Training Certificate is required.
  • Occupational Health and Safety (WHMIS) certificate required.
  • Current Standard first aid/ CPR Level C Certificate required.
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.

SALARY: After School Program Site Lead Hourly Rate: $27.20
