Work Hours: 24 hours per week. Shifts will include days, evenings and weekend shifts. Part-time contract up to 12 months.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Fitness Coordinator the Fitness Specialist is responsible for providing members and guests comprehensive guidance and support to ensure achievement of personal fitness goals. The position is also responsible for on-site supervision of patrons of the Fitness Centre and supporting other part time staff as required.

Job Duties

  • Unlocks and locks-up Fitness Centre as required
  • Organizes the physical set-up and general clean-up of the Fitness Centre
  • Providing friendly and courteous tours to potential members
  • Completes membership sales, renewals and cancellations
  • Promoting fitness appraisals and other programming services
  • Obtaining and screening medical/health history of members
  • Providing instruction to members-exercise and equipment use
  • Recommending fitness programs and/or special events
  • Compiling and summarizing member/program participant statistics
  • Conducting new member on-boarding programs
  • Conducts CSEP approved Fitness Assessments when required
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to new part-time staff as required
  • Support group fitness operation and willingness to teach and/or moderate Group Fitness Classes when required
  • Candidates should be enthusiastic, upbeat, positive and customer-service oriented
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Kinesiology or related or College Fitness and Lifestyle Management Program or related program
  • Possess a valid Personal Training or group fitness Certification (CanFit Pro, ACSM, CPTN, YMCA, NSCA or equivalent).
  • CSEP Certification an asset
  • Minimum age of 16 years old at the start of employment
  • 1+ year experience in Fitness/Customer Service related position
  • Standard First Aid or Intermediate First Aid with CPR C and AED certification
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Outlook and registration software (Xplor Recreation) an asset
  • Good verbal/written communication skills, customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of participants and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
