EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the term position (up to 6 months) of Junior Environmental Professional within the Environment & Climate Change Division of Property, Fleet and Environment.

Under the direction of the Manager of Clean Energy, the successful candidate will support the team in promoting the adoption of renewable and clean energy technologies within our organization and community through policy, projects and programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical

  • Undertakes research and provides technical and administrative support for the initiatives of HalifACT and other environmental work.
  • Develops and maintains databases related to environmental performance measurement.
  • Writes and prepares reports, presentations, and background material for senior management.
  • Assists in the preparation of Regional Council Reports and other public documents

Outreach/Education

  • Builds positive public and private sector relationships and partnerships.
  • Collects, prepares, writes, and organizes public education and awareness information with respect to environmental performance measuring and reporting and climate action.
  • Liaises and communicates with environment-related partners and groups.

Project work

  • Supports the activities of consultants and contractors.
  • Assists with the development of proposals, tender documents, reports, policies, projects and programs.
  • Liaises with other business units and external agencies, groups and departments in the collection, compilation, and reporting of data.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in science, engineering, commerce, social science, or other related degree or diploma.
  • 1 year of relevant combined work and volunteer experience.
  • Proficient with computers with strong working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases

Technical/Job-Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability and environmental performance measuring
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations and acts
  • Knowledge of municipal acts, by-laws, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of environmental science, mitigation, adaptation, and best management practices for environmental protection
  • Knowledge of software and technology such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), spreadsheets, etc.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job-specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: 6-month temporary full-time position

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, 35 hours per week

SALARY: NSGEU 222, Level 6, $34.87 per hour

WORK LOCATION: 3rd Floor of Dartmouth Ferry Terminal (88 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth)
