As a Financial Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth payment processes. About the job
In this role, you will have the following responsibilities:
Payment Sub-Ledger Management: Keep the payment-related sub-ledger up-to-date by recording transactions promptly; Review and verify payment entries for accuracy; Investigate discrepancies and resolve any issues promptly.
Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations (and other reconciliations) to ensure that the ministry's records match bank statements; Identify and investigate discrepancies between internal records and bank statements; Follow up with the bank to resolve any discrepancies or errors; update financial records via journal entries when discrepancies are resolved.
Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries related to payments, adjustments, and other financial transactions; Ensure proper documentation and adherence to accounting principles; Collaborate with the accounting team to maintain accurate general ledger records.
Reporting and Analysis: Generate periodic reports related to payment activities; Analyze payment trends and identify areas for improvement; Provide insights to management regarding payment-related matters.
Process Improvement: Continuously assess existing processes and recommend improvements; Streamline payment workflows to enhance efficiency; Develop and maintain written operational procedures for all payment-related tasks.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Treasury) to ensure seamless financial operations; Coordinate with external banks, IT support staff, and financial institutions as needed.
You can also expect to be involved in the following areas:
- provide financial analysis and systems monitoring/administration to support branch teams
- support financial policy development, financial controllership, consolidation and reporting activities
- draft and produce financial summaries and reports
- provide information, support and guidance to management and staff
- support financial control operations and integrity of data
- assist in the review, analysis and reconciliation of ministry bank accounts
- assist in examining, monitoring, controlling, analyzing, reconciling, forecasting and reporting irregularities and concerns
- participate on unit/branch project teams
- provide information and standard interpretations of financial control and reporting policies, procedures and practices, identifying opportunities for improvements

Finance and Accounting Knowledge
You have:
- knowledge of and can apply accounting principles/practices, financial analysis techniques and financial reporting processes.
- demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply financial directives, policies, procedures and processes related to financial controllership.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
You have:
- analytical skills to conduct analyses and reconciliations and review reports.
- planning and organizational skills to set work priorities and meet deadlines in a high volume environment.
- the ability to apply reasoned judgement in identifying and resolving or recommending solutions.
- the ability to work accurately and pay close attention to details.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
You have:
- oral and written communication skills to listen/receive and relay information effectively.
- interpersonal and relationship management skills to interact and engage in teamwork productively.
Technical Skills
- You have proven competency with computerized financial systems, Microsoft Excel and other common computer software applications.
