Job Summary

The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative (Dallaire Initiative) was established in 2007 by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda ( UNAMIR ). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide. As of April 2020, the Dallaire Initiative has now become the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Human Resources Advisor will be responsible for all areas of human resources management, such as recruitment, staffing, leave management, contract administration, records management, supporting HR system technology ( HRIS ) and job performance.

Key Responsibilities

Leads full-cycle recruitment processes, including job postings, advertising, candidate screening, interviews, and selection in accordance with hiring policies. Provides expert guidance to hiring committees to ensure equitable, transparent, and conflict-free recruitment practices, including developing interview tools and training. Manages onboarding and offboarding processes, delivering orientation, coordinating cross-functional support, and ensuring a positive employee lifecycle experience. Maintains and optimizes HR systems by tracking leave, analyzing HR metrics, and recommending improvements to enhance operational efficiency. Delivers HR advisory services on employee relations matters, including policy interpretation, investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management. Administers employment documentation and HR operations, including contracts, payroll coordination, personnel records, and facilities/service requests.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a relevant field, with five years of human resources administration experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), SharePoint, with HRIS software experience. Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural contexts and respect for diversity; multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated interest in global and/or humanitarian affairs. Highly proactive and organized in anticipating and responding to the needs of the organization. Demonstrates discretion, sensitivity, respect for diversity, confidentiality, tact and diplomacy. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills; demonstrated ability to work within tight deadlines and under pressure. Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.

Assets

Experience working within non-profit, academic, political and/or government institutions. Proficiency in French, Spanish or Portuguese. Experience using PeopleAdmin Recruitment System
