Applications Architect
About the role
Our Client is looking for a Senior Applications Architect with extensive experience in Microsoft Azure, enterprise integration, application architecture, and large-scale system modernization.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing secure, scalable, and integrated application architectures across complex enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design application architectures, system components, interfaces, databases, middleware, and integration patterns
Define reusable application components, architectural standards, quality metrics, and technical limitations
Lead the design and implementation of cross-platform applications in large and distributed environments
Develop architecture models, technical documentation, system designs, and implementation roadmaps
Design and support multi-tier application infrastructure across cloud and enterprise environments
Integrate complex permit, application, workflow, database, and middleware systems
Develop and oversee APIs, microservices, ESB solutions, gateways, and enterprise integrations
Monitor system interactions, performance, security, scalability, and operational reliability
Translate business requirements into detailed functional and technical architecture designs
Provide technical leadership, mentor development teams, and support stakeholder decision-making
Ensure solutions comply with Ontario Government architecture, security, accessibility, and governance standards
Support incident, change, release, and deployment-management processes
Mandatory Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
10+ years of progressive experience in IT architecture, application design, and system integration
Expert-level experience designing and implementing Microsoft Azure architecture
Strong Azure experience across security, networking, identity, data services, infrastructure, and monitoring
Experience delivering Azure solutions in large-scale and complex enterprise environments
Strong experience with API development, enterprise service buses, microservices, middleware, and gateways
Experience designing and implementing enterprise application integration solutions
Extensive experience with multiple platforms, operating systems, databases, programming languages, and communication protocols
Experience designing and supporting large, distributed, multi-tier applications
Strong knowledge of cloud security, compliance, identity management, and enterprise monitoring
Familiarity with ITIL processes, including incident, change, and release management
Experience with enterprise architecture models, data modelling, process modelling, metadata, repositories, and data dictionaries
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Ontario Public Service or broader public-sector experience
Experience with Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture standards, methodologies, and practices
Knowledge of the OPS PMO Stage Gate process
Experience integrating permit, licensing, application-management, or case-management systems
Knowledge of Information Management principles, policies, and practices
Experience designing workflow processes and dynamic forms
TOGAF, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, or related certifications
Master s degree in a relevant discipline
