Position Summary
The Community Assistant (CA) is a live-in paraprofessional position that is responsible for assisting residence hall students individually and in groups.
The CAs primary role is to facilitate the creation of a positive residence hall environment which supports students' transition, academic and personal success.
For this environment to develop, CAs develop individual relationships with each resident, assist residents in developing community with others, and help connect residents to the campus and campus resources.
These connections are developed through intentional interactions and community events. Within this position, CAs engage in critical thinking and problem-solving to address community needs and to provide support to residents.

Anticipated Weekly Hours
The CA position is a 15-20 hour per week position relative to the contract term of the community being served in.
Compensation
CA will receive a single room or apartment in the assigned community.
Residence hall contracts are standard contracts and do not include break housing. CAs residing in residence halls with no work responsibilities over breaks will be required to register and pay for break housing.

CA will receive a standard 19 meal plan.
Required Job Qualifications
Consent to, and participate in, a background check
Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire and background check
Meet all eligibility to live in the residence hall and/or apartments according to individual contracts. Participate in a review of conduct records at Colorado State University prior to and throughout employment
No current or pending disciplinary incidents- prior incidents are not an automatic disqualification, but all prior cases must be disclosed at time of application and hire
Maintain good academic standing with the University, a minimum semester and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
Enrolled at CSU and working toward graduation
Be fully enrolled each semester of employment at CSU (12 credits for undergraduate and 9 credits for graduate)
15 or more in process or completed credit hours at time of application
Eligible to work in the U.S. up to 20 hours per week Available to attend weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm during the period of employment; CAs are expected to work their academic schedule around this meeting time.

2.5 GPA or higher
Essential Job Duties
Serve in an on-call duty rotation, which includes holding a phone and remaining present in the building to respond to urgent resident needs, building community through regular community walks, and responding to policy concerns. Attend training activities including but not limited to pre-employment staff kick-off activities, spring training, fall training, winter training, and any additionally required pre-employment and continuing education programs throughout the year. Actively support other members of the residence hall staff; work collaboratively as a team.
Attend weekly staff meetings
Assist the department with staffing needs in other communities as needed
Respond to and document maintenance concerns in and around the building.
Complete hall and administrative duties by assigned deadlines- complete paperwork in a thorough and timely manner
Participate in regular 1:1 meeting with your supervisor (s) based on community needs and supervisor expectations
Keep supervisor informed of floor, resident, and facility issues, and assist in resolution as needed. Maintain open lines of communication with supervisors and peers
Utilize phone, email, Teams, and in-person communication with managers to communicate area updates, successes and concerns in a timely manner
Participate in regular performance evaluations
Decision Making
Develop and maintain on-going interactions and conversations with residents, individually and as a community. Assist residents in establishing community standards and in accepting responsibility for floor/individual issues. Establish and maintain an environment that is supportive of successful academic achievement. Assist with staff selection, staff training, and staff development activities to support the hiring and development of successful candidates. As a Campus Security Authority (CSA), RAs are required to report all information regarding alleged crimes reported to them in good faith by others, as well as information of alleged crimes they personally witness.
