About the role

As a Communications Specialist, you will play a key role in delivering external communications strategies – including the creation of engaging and authentic social media content – that support Irving Oil’s organizational priorities. Your goal will be to collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage reputation, strengthen relationships, develop and execute content plans, navigate issues and crisis communications and support community programming initiatives. Your success in this position will be attributed to your strong writing background, your passion for storytelling and communications and your willingness to be a collaborative team player with a keen sense of curiosity. What we offer: Work Environment – Work onsite in our beautiful home office building with access to a fitness facility, onsite nurse, and a café Competitive Compensation – Including a parking allowance Flexible Benefits Plan – Including medical and dental benefits that are both in effect from day one Paid Vacation Wellness Support – With 24/7 access to our Employee & Family Assistance Program Opportunity to give back to some amazing causes in our community – Choose when and where to make an impact with a paid volunteer day, company volunteer opportunities and a donation matching program Your Responsibilities: Participate in the development of strategies to address corporate communications issues impacting our business, and work collaboratively with various teams to inform, advocate and consult as required Create and post content for organic social media channels, including pitching and identifying story opportunities, planning content calendars and analyzing social media performance Develop and execute detailed communications plans, including planning events and activities that lead to a consistent and meticulous experience for all involved, ensuring consistent, effective and integrated approaches Support Irving Oil’s neighbour and community relations programming, including building relationships with external community stakeholders Support media relations efforts, including the preparation of clear, quick and concise recommendations Support initiatives across the company with thoughtful, proactive communications strategies, including media relations, organic social media content and print and digital communications Your Skills: Excellent written and verbal communications, analytical and research skills, with an understanding of business principles and drivers Strong grammatical and editing skills with a desire to produce flawless written materials Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid, multi-tasking environment with an extreme attention to detail and an enthusiastic attitude Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills that lead to consistently positive interactions and the ability to form trusted relationships Strong knowledge of Canadian Press Style Guidelines considered an asset Your Experience: University degree in a related discipline (e.g. Public Relations, Communications, Journalism) Three to five years of progressive experience, including at least four years in a similar role; energy industry or journalism experience preferred Irving Oil is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
