Student - Plant Operations and Maintenance - Temporary Full-Time 2026-17367
About the role
Sunnybrook is a large North York-based hospital that receives electrical power from the Toronto Hydro grid and through its Main Substation delivers power to twenty building distribution Substations. From there, the power is routed to over one thousand panels that form the Emergency and Normal Power systems, electrifying equipment from office lighting to critical medical devices.
The Plant Operations and Maintenance Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the electrical distribution system. A documentation database is needed to aggregate tens of thousands of circuits and log the impact of a power outage on each one.
Summary of Duties
Reporting to the Electrical and Mechanical Manager and working with staff Electricians, the students will take pictures of panel directories and create a database, identifying critical circuits in each one. This information will be entered in a format that supports each Substation’s schematic drawing.
Responsibilities Include:
- Data Gathering & Entry
- Consult the Single Line Diagram for each Substation
- Using an Excel spreadsheet, transfer the diagram format to the spreadsheet
- Add Panel circuit information from the Directories to the spreadsheet.
- Highlight circuits served by an Automatic Transfer Switch
- Z32 Clinical Circuits
- Support the Electricians with custom sheets for each circuit
- Create a database to track the Z32 work with completion dates
- Create order sheets for labels
- Update Panel Directories
- Spreadsheet construction
- Set it up to easily check for circuit impacts on a given outage
- Work with the Electricians to create an effective format
