Course Number and Name: EMU355Y1 - Accompanying   Course Description: The course focuses on developing pianistic, musical and verbal skills in order to succeed in a broad spectrum of collaborative opportunities during a professional career. In-class accompanying presentations and lectures introduce students to professional musician/teacher requirements through collaborative training. Practical experience in improvisation, sight-reading. Assignments appropriate to level of keyboard facility.   Class Schedule: Section 1: Thursdays 11am-12pm, Section 2: Fridays 12-1pm   Months of contract: September 2026 to April 2027   Salary: $13,196.66   Estimated Course Enrollment: 8 per section   TA support: yes                                                                                            Qualifications: Graduate degree in music education, piano performance and pedagogy, or equivalent professional experience.  Extensive knowledge of piano accompanying pedagogy and the applications of piano to music teaching in a variety of settings. Demonstrated excellence teaching accompanying pedagogy at the university level. Ability to model high-level skills in transposition, sight harmonization, improvisation and sight-reading.   Duties: Define course objectives; prepare course materials; provide clear guidelines on course requirements and regulations; teach classes as scheduled; administer and evaluate student assignments; prepare and submit final grades in accordance with policy.
