This position will work out of and report to the Principal at Gold River Secondary School.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Teach and assess courses related to work experience, career education and trade exploration for grade 7 – 12 learners
  • Conduct workplace visits and monitor student progress, safety, and learning outcomes
  • Ensure all required documentation, training and safety certifications are completed prior to placement
  • Maintain accurate records of student placement, attendance, evaluations and course completion
  • Preparation for students to complete Skilled Trades BC standardized written exam
  • Develop and maintain partnership with internal and external groups and agencies, including Skills Canada, Construction Foundation of BC, Skilled Trades BC, industry sector and employer groups and the Ministry of Education and Child Care
  • Develop and maintain positive partnerships with local businesses, industry partners, and community employers to expand and promote meaningful work experience placement opportunities for students
  • Promote and maintain awareness of dual credit and career-related programs, courses and events
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents/guardians, employers, and community partners to support student success
  • Educate school and community partners about transitional linkage between Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP), Sampler Programs, Work Experience (WEX), Youth Training in Trades (YTT) and Youth Working in Trades (YWT)
  • Network and recruit employers for district events and classroom presentations
  • Design, organize and lead district events including but not limited to, Skills Canada, Career Exploration, Find Your Fit, and Guess My Job,
  • Apply for available grants under the direction of the Superintendent

Essential Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Education is Secondary Education or equivalent
  • BC Teacher Certification
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Journeyperson certification, Red Seal endorsement or related industry experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable of skilled trades, Journeyperson, Red Seal, apprenticeship programs, dual credit programs and workplace learning
  • Strong organizational, communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employers, community agencies, and educational partners
  • Ability to mentor and motivate youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of First Nations schools and culturally responsive instruction
  • Excellent understanding of safety, WorkSafeBC regulations, and classroom/shop management skills
  • Flexibility in scheduling is an asset to support student workplace visits, employer engagement, and work placement coordination
  • Class 4 driver's license
