Head Ice Technician
About the role
The Dawson Creek Curling Club is seeking a Head Ice Technician for the 2026–27 season.
This seasonal leadership position is responsible for all aspects of curling ice installation, maintenance, and removal within our dedicated 8-sheet facility. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager, volunteers, and City arena staff to ensure high-quality ice conditions throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities: • Lead annual ice installation and spring ice removal • Maintain playing surfaces through scraping, pebbling, nipping, flooding, and ongoing ice management • Monitor ice conditions and make adjustments to optimize performance • Maintain curling stones and ice-making equipment • Support bonspiels, league play, school programs, and special events • Maintain daily ice records and communicate operational needs
What Makes This Position Unique: • Dedicated 8-sheet curling facility • Average 25–30 hour work week outside of bonspiels and installation/removal periods • Experienced volunteer installation and removal crew • Retired former Head Ice Technician available for consultation and support • City-operated refrigeration plant maintained by arena and engineering staff • Dedicated RO water system targeting near 0 TDS water quality • Established leagues, bonspiels, and operating procedures
Season Overview: • Installation begins mid-September • League play runs October through March • Ice removal occurs in early April • Includes Cashspiel, Mixed, Men’s & Ladies, Elementary Bonspiel, Funspiels, and potential U18 Winter Games Trials
Candidates with curling ice experience, arena ice experience, refrigeration knowledge, or strong mechanical aptitude are encouraged to apply.
