Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: Every position contributes to the spiritual and social mission of The Salvation Army. The Foodbank Helper assists in the operations of collecting and processing donations to the Williams Lake Salvation Army, practicing good stewardship of resources. The incumbent will assist in the weighing and sorting of daily food donations and fill the Shareshelf as needed while following FIFO (first in, first out) practices.

Responsibilities & Expectations

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of services Follows policy on the use of donated foods Keeps simple records and completes incident reports as necessary Works with volunteers in a positive and respectful manner Processes donated items: unloading, sorting, spacing, and loading items Creates and maintain donor/donation records and reports statistics Replenishes inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions Operates commercial scale Works with team members in building safety: including light cleaning and reporting needed maintenance to supervisor; assists in general cleanup, snow removal, garbage, and compost removal Will be responsible for receiving phone calls, receiving donations, handling public inquiries within Williams Lake Salvation Army’s policies May be responsible for serving breakfast and lunch in the community kitchen May be asked to support the kitchen with dishes Perform other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions

This position is a temporary contract position funded through a grant Working hours will be set in consultation with supervisor according to grant stipulations and operating needs Work location is within Community & Family Services Facility The incumbent works in generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions Odors Garbage Dirty Environment Excessive noise Required to lift up to 50lbs The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to: Exposure to infectious diseases Possible exposure to illicit drugs and alcohol Musculoskeletal injury due to improper lifting technique Sharp objects The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to H&S rules): Universal precautions Employ proper lifting techniques, use equipment and tools as necessary WHMIS training/certificate The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.

Education And Experience Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

High school diploma or equivalent Foodsafe 1 basic an asset CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements

Preference given to those with prior warehouse/non-profit experience

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.04 with a maximum of $23.82.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
