École McTavish High School is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our instructional team in the role of Indigenous Liaison.

Requirements: The ideal candidate would possess the following background, philosophy, and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong commitment to building positive, respectful relationships with students, families, staff, and community members through a student-centered approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, perspectives, and ways of knowing, with a strong commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action in Education.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students, families, Elders, and local Indigenous communities.
  • Ability to support Indigenous students academically, socially, emotionally, and culturally to promote school engagement, success, and high school completion.
  • Experience teaching or willingness to teach Indigenous Studies at both junior and senior high levels.
  • Experience planning and supporting cultural activities, land-based learning opportunities, celebrations, and school-wide events that honour Indigenous cultures and traditions.
  • Strong mentorship, advocacy, and relationship-building skills with youth.
  • Knowledge of graduation requirements and ability to support students in developing pathways toward graduation and future success.
  • Effective organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • Skilled in differentiating instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
  • Ability to design and implement supports and intervention plans for students requiring additional academic or social-emotional support.
  • Commitment to fostering safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environments for all students.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth in Indigenous education and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Willingness to contribute positively to the overall school community beyond the classroom.
